When I was initially developing the vision that helps you to leave the castle in the game, I wasn’t thinking about making it available to be seen through walls.
To create the vision I used two cameras, one that shows the normal game, and another one that only shows the smoke that leads the player to the next target, but when I put it in motion the smoke was visible from everywhere in the game.
After looking a lit bit about this problem, I decided to let it this way, for a couple of reasons:
- It is a game to be finished quick (it is a game jam game)
- It avoids player frustration to keep visiting rooms to only check if there was something
I believe this way the game is easier, but the enjoyment in play it and use the vision (which is a core mechanism in the game) would be higher.
